Getting rid of the blind spots in the protection of the whistleblower

We have been trying to improve the system to protect the whistleblower.

There are two laws in our country to protect whistleblowers. The whistleblowers for public sector get protected by the Corruption Prevention Act, while the whistleblowers on acts of infringement of public interest in the private sector are protected by the Whistleblower Protection Act. However, both laws have a narrow range of reporting and protections that prevent whistleblowers from being properly protected. In response, we submitted a petition to the National Assembly for the Anti-Corruption Act and the Whistleblower Protection Act which would expand the range of whistleblowers. We insisted Lawyer Proxy Report to prevent the association from receiving retaliatory punishments such as dismissal or dismissal for the identity of whistleblowers, and Lawyer Proxy Report got introduced into the Whistleblower Protection Act in April 2018.

We help whistleblowers not get disadvantaged

We urged the informant to return to the original state, by submitting an opinion to Kang Shin-cheon, who was fired after reporting corruption at the Jeonbuk Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross, for example. We not only asked the commission for a prompt investigation but also filed a complaint against the Farmhannong for violating the protection law for whistleblower for the case of Lee Jong-hun, who reported the cover-up of the Farmhannong’s industrial accident. In addition, we supported Prof. Ryu Young-joon, who was the whistleblower of dissertation fabrication of Hwang Woo-suk, when he got accused of defamation after whistleblowing, and also supported a whistleblower who alleged the abuse of disabled people at the Center for the Protection of Disabled Persons.

2018 The Night of the Whistleblower for Public Interest, 5 People Awarded for their Righteousness

Since 2010, we have established the 'Award for Righteousness' and presented it every December to honor the courage and dedication of public service whistleblowers who reported public infringement such as abuse of power, waste of budget, and violation of private institutions' laws to related agencies. In 2018, we again awarded five whistleblowers, including Mr. Kim Jong-baek, who reported the evidence and testimony to prove that Lee Myeong-bak, former president, is the owner of DAS.
