지구의 날을 맞아 광주에서는 주말을 이용해 시민들과 함께 지구의 소중함을 배우고 체험하는 기념행사를 금남로에서 갖었습니다. 4월 23일(토) 오전 11시부터 시작된 지구의 날 기념행사는 자전거대행진이 그 시작을 열었습니다. 매일 자동차로 점령된 도로를 이날 하루만이라도 자전거로 달려보는 자전거 대행진에는 학생 및 시민 200여명이 함께 했습니다.

금남로 전일빌딩에서 금남공원까지 300m거리는 차없는 거리로 변신해, 다양한 문화공간, 체험공간, 전시공간으로 가득 채워졌습니다.

특히  차없는 거리 금남로에서는 다양한 시민참여마당과 주제마당이 진행되었는데 자원의 순환과 재활용을 테마로 하는 마을기업들도 함께 참여했습니다. 주제마당에는 도시농업과 탈핵과 에너지, 동물권 등 권리마당 등 지구를 생각하는 공간들이 금남로에 펼쳐졌습니다.
