박재묵 에너지시민연대 대표는 경기전 인사말을 통해 “대한민국은 이미 에너지과소비 국가에 들어가 있다”며 에너지 절약에 동참해 줄 것을 호소했다.

대전에너지시민연대는 이외에도 8월 22일 에너지의 날 당일 오후 9시 대전시청 건물을 5분간 소등할 예정이다. 또 대전시 산하기관 및 자치구의 청사와 일반 가정도 자발적으로 소등행사에 참여해달라고 요청했다.

대전시 이홍석 에너지산업과장은 “여름철 대전시 관내에서 5분간 불을 끄면 100MW 전기와 1300만 원의 전기요금을 아낄 수 있다”면서 “이런 기회를 통해 꼭 필요한 만큼만 에너지를 소비하는 선진 시민의식이 확산되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “에너지 절약은 개인적인 의미를 뛰어 넘어 깨끗한 지구를 후손들에게 물려주는 보람있는 일이기에 시민들의 자발적인 소등행사 참여를 당부 드린다”고 강조했다.

고은아 대전환경운동연합 사무처장은 “전국 1600만 가구가 5분간 불을 끄면 26만6400kWh의 전기를 절약할 수 있다”고 강조했다. 이어 “더불어 지구온난화의 주범인 이산화탄소 발생량도 12만3200㎏이나 줄어드는 효과가 있다”고 설명했다.
