다음 모임에는 조를 짜서 생태지도를 완성하려 합니다.

기후변화 대응 온실가스 저감 CO2 토론회 개최

지속가능한 사회를 위해 대학과 기업의 선도적 역할 기대

서울환경운동연합(이하 서울환경연합)은 지난 10월 27일(목) 13시 환경재단 레이첼 카슨 홀에서 기후변화문제 해결을 위해 대학교와 기업의 우수한 사례를 공유하고 사회적 참여를 확산시키고자 ‘기후변화 대응 온실가스 저감 CO2 토론회’를 개최했습니다.

이번 행사는 기후변화 대응과 온실가스저감 활동을 해온 대학교와 기업을 대상으로 준비했으며 모범적인 활동사례로 △상명대학교 ‘Green Story Project’ △홈플러스 ‘기후변화대응’ △서울환경연합 ‘기후변화와 CO2 다이어트’의 발제로 진행되었습니다.

이날 상명대학교는 중앙도서관 LED 전등교체(2015년), 태양광 가로등 설치(2015년) 등의 교내 환경조성과 대학에서의 생활실천사례 발표에 주력했습니다. 교직원과 학생이 교내에서 걷기를 통해 친환경적 생활을 이해하고 체득할 수 있게 만든 ‘워킹코스’, 교내식당의 음식물 낭비를 줄이고자 잔반을 남기지 않는 ‘너의 식판을 보여줘’ 캠페인 등 일상생활의 작은 변화로 CO2의 절감을 만들어내고 있습니다.

홈플러스는 2000년부터 환경친화기업을 선포하며 온실가스감축 활동으로 국내 최초의 ‘그린스토어’(2008년)와 ‘제로카본 연수원’(2011년)을 오픈해 기존 점포 대비 50%의 CO2를 절감하며 연간 480톤의 CO2를 절감했다고 발표했습니다. 또한 홈플러스 ‘e-파란재단’을 창립하여 기후변화기금을 통해 기후변화 대응활동에 적극적으로 임하고 있다며 기업의 선도적인 역할과 모범적인 실천사례를 통해 기업의 기후변화 대응과 온실가스 저감활동의 확산을 기대했습니다.

서울환경연합은 시민을 대상으로 2008년부터 시작해온 ‘CO2 다이어트 활동과 ’기후변화 시민의식조사‘ 결과를 발표했습니다. 이번 ’기후변화 시민의식조사‘ 결과 응답자의 94%가 기후변화문제의 심각성을 인지하고 있었으며 69%가 화석연료를 기반한 사회시스템’이 가장 큰 원인이라고 답했습니다. 하지만 여전히 시민들이 참여할 수 있는 기후변화 대응 활동의 정보가 부족한 것으로 조사돼 지속적인 교육과 홍보가 필요한 것으로 나타났습니다.

이어서 토론자로 참여한 황상규 서울시 G-밸리 전기차추진단 기획실장은 “환경단체, 대학교, 기업 모두 CO2를 절감하는 정량적 목표에 한계가 있다”며 “향후 보완을 통해 실질적인 저감활동에 나서길 바란다”고 온실가스 저감활동의 구체적인 목표와 실천을 강조했습니다. 또한 김경희 사회복지공동모금회 기업모금팀장은 기업의 사회공헌으로 기후변화 대응과 온실가스 저감을 이끌어 내기 위해서는 보다 구체적인 환경프로그램의 필요성을 강조했습니다.

앞으로 서울환경운동연합은 이번 토론회의 내용을 바탕으로 시민들이 자발적으로 참여할 수 있는 시민실천방안의 수립과 기후변화 문제의 지속적인 교육 및 홍보캠페인을 진행할 예정입니다. 또한 기후변화문제 해결의 주체자로서 청년들의 참여와 실천을 확산시키고, 생활속에서는 시민들과 함께 ‘CO2 1인 1톤 줄이기’ 활동을 적극적으로 추진해 나갈 것입니다.
