인천섬 아카데미 교육 5강을 마치고 해양보호구역인 ‘대이작도 생태체험탐방 1차 교육’을

다녀왔습니다.

인천연안여객터미널에서 배를 타고 약 한시간 1시간 10분가량을 달려 도착한 대이작도.

숙소에 도착하자 마자 짐을 내려놓고 대이작도의’부아산’을 등정하면서 배귀재 식물학자에게서 이작도에 서식하고 있는 식물에 대해 강의를 들으며 올라갑니다.

부아산 정상에서 내려다 본 바다는 해무가 살짝 끼어 신비로움을 나타냈습니다.

꽃게로 끊인 맛있는 점심식사를 하고 나서 옹진군에 처음으로 생긴

‘대이작도 생태전시관’을 들려 대이작도를 배경으로 영화를 촬영했던

‘섬마을 선생’을 관람하고 나서 ‘숲길을 따라서’라는 제목으로

배귀재 식물학자의 강의를 들었습니다.

강의가 끝나고 풀등으로 가는 배를 타기 위해 작은풀안 해변으로 이동하여 풀등에 도착~~~

언젠가는 밞을 수 없을지 모르는 모래를 밞기 위해 신발을 벗었으며,

모래위에서 점프도 시도해 보고, 모래사장에 살던 생물도 만나고….

경이로움에 빠져든 풀등 탐사시간이었습니다.

풀등에서 배를 타고 나와서 섬으로 유입되는 해양쓰레기 성상조사 및 정화활동을

하였습니다.

심형진 강사님의 해양쓰레기에 대한 내용을 들으며 심각한 쓰레기 문제에 동감하였습니다.

해수욕장을 개장해서 그런지 쓰레기 양은 많지 않았지만, 스치로풀 쓰레기가 큰 문제였습니다. 잘게 쪼개지면 미세플라스틱의 일부가 되는 쓰레기들….

적은 양이지만 성상조사를 실시하였고, 정화작업을 하여 분리수거함에 넣었습니다.

숙소로 돌아가는 길에 ‘삼신할미약수터’와 ‘이작도 보호수’ 소나무를 보았으며,

섬 사람들의 생활에 대해 생각하는 시간을 가졌습니다.

다음날을 계남리로 가서 ‘섬마을 선생’ 촬영지인 계남분교를 돌아보았습니다.

일정을 마치고 인천으로 돌아오면서 푹푹찌는 폭염속으로 들어 갈 것에

걱정이 되었지만, 해양보호구역 이작도 탐방을 재밌고, 기억에 남게 하는

생태체험탐방교육이었습니다.

숲에서 노는 어린이가 되자

인천환경운동연합에서 숲체험강사로 활동한지 2년째로 접어든다. 2007년부터 내가 사는 서구 지역에서 동아리 모임으로 시작하여 자원봉사를 거쳐 아이들을 만나오면서 성취감, 만족감도 있었지만 부족함에 대한 고민이 늘 있었다.

나에게 이 길이 맞을까? 분명 아이들을 만나서 숲에서 노는 것은 좋았지만 그것만 가지고는 될 수 없는 것이 숲해설가다. 다양한 분야를 공부해야 하고 지속적인 모니터링과 끊임없는 프로그램 및 놀이 개발 등 공부도 즐겨야 오랫동안 이 일을 할 수 있다. 이런 고민이 있을 때 인천환경운동연합을 알게 되어 숲해설가로서 좀 더 바로 설 수 있는 계기가 되었다.

혼자보다는 둘이, 둘보다는 셋이, 셋보다는 좀 더 많이 모이면 그만큼 모이는 생각들과 나눌 무언가가 많아진다. 그것들이 우리에겐 힘이고 지치지 않을 에너지원이다. 같이 한다는 것이 좋고 생각이 비슷한 사람들이라서 좋고 말이 통해서 좋은 거다. 숲체험 활동을 하며 아이들을 만나서 내가 열심히 준비한 것들을 눈을 빛내며 들어주고 따라줄 때 내가 이 일을 하기를 잘했구나 하는 생각이 든다.

때로 어떤 친구들은 관심이 통 없기도 하지만 대부분 초록을 보게 되면 기분이 좋아진다. 매 수업을 앞두고 떨리고 긴장되고 불안하기도 하지만 그런 마음들이 당연하다고 여기고 그런 만큼 준비를 더 잘하게 되는 것 같다. 숲선생의 말을 100퍼센트 믿는 아이들을 보면 더 무거운 책임감에 또 공부하게 된다.

숲체험 강사로 활동하며 가장 좋았던 것은 나에 대한 자신감이다. 그리고 자부심이다. 이 일은 아무나 할 수 있는 일이 아니며 아이들을 때로는 어른들의 마음을 여는 일이라고 생각한다. 놀이가 부족해 어린이의 순수함을 너무 일찍 잃어버린 청소년, 어른, 어린이들이 유치한 어린이가 될 수 있는 허용된 시간이기 때문이다. 이 사회의 일원이 되기 위해 교육되어진 사람들의 틀, 무의식의 저 밑바닥에 형체도 모르게 쓰러져 있는 우리의 야생의 감각들을 깨우는 것이 숲에서 노는 어린이가 되는 것이다. 거창한 듯하지만 내가 바라는 숲해설가의 모습이다.

인천환경운동연합의 숲체험 강사로 열심히 배움의 과정을 하고 있지만 아직도 나의 길은 멀다는 것을 알고 항상 부족하다는 마음으로 준비하고 있다. 지금처럼 서로 밥 먹으며 웃으며 같이 공부하다 보면 그런 날이 더 빨리 오겠지….
