대전광역시와 대전에너지시민연대(대전환경운동연합 외 6개 단체)는 8월 22일 에너지의 날을 앞두고 지난 20일 제18회 에너지의날 행사를 진행했다.

에너지의 날은 에너지시민연대가 주최하는 전국단위 에너지 절약 행사로, 2003년 8월 22일 우리나라 역대 최대 전력소비를 기록한 날을 기억하고 에너지 절약과 재생에너지 확대의 필요성을 알리기 위해 2004년부터 제정됐다.

이번 에너지의 날 행사는 코로나19로 비대면 행사로 치러졌는데 대전도시공사 산하 아파트 3000세대 주민이 함께 했다. 오후 9시부터 5분 동안 전등을 끄는 ‘전국 동시 소등행사’를 비롯해 범국민적 에너지 절약 실천운동과 에너지 절약 캠페인 등이 대전 5개구 각 지역에서 펼쳐졌다.

에너지절약 온라인 행사는 가상현실 속에서 에너지의 날 기념 퀴즈를 풀며 시민들이 스마트폰 앱을 활용해 참여하고 실천할 수 있는 방식으로 운영됐다. 많은 시민들이 에너지 퀴즈도 풀고 푸짐한 경품도 받아갔다.

에너지절약 캠페인 행사는 6개의 시민단체가 5개구의 주요 사거리 및 장소에서 ▲ 전력피크타임에 에어컨 설정온도 2℃올리기(오후 2시~3시/1시간) ▲ 전국 동시 소등 행사(오후 9시~오후 9시 5분 / 5분)로 전 국민이 생활 속에서 에너지절약을 행동으로 실천할 수 있도록 독려했다.

에너지의 날 소등행사는 지속가능한 에너지사회 구현을 위해  ‘불을 끄고 별을 켜자’라는 ‘소등 퍼포먼스’로 전국 동시 5분(오후 9시~9시 5분) 소등이 진행됐다. 작년 에너지의날 행사 당시 5분간의 소등만으로 전국 집계 약 45만kwh의 전력 절감량을 기록하였다.
