외식은 거의 불가능했으며 술자리라도 있는 날이면 곤욕이었다. 호기롭게 시작한 캠페인은 결국 무너졌다. 달콤한 설탕의 유혹이 아니라 부지불식간 들어있는 반찬 속에 설탕들 때문이었다.
밖에서 음식을 먹을 때 면 일일이 설탕이 들어갔는지 물어보는 수고로움과 ‘왜 그건 걸 물어보지?’ 라는 이상한 시선을 견디는 것은 덤이었다. 하지만 무엇보다 사카린, 아스파탐 등의 인공감미료와 설탕을 넣어 발효한 매실액과 같은 첨가물은 설탕이라고 생각하지 않는 인식이었다.

삼겹살을 먹으면서 쌈장을, 회를 먹으면서는 초장을 찍지 않고 버티던 설탕 없는 한 달은 어이없게 무김치에 무너졌다. 설탕을 안 넣었다고 해서 맛있게 먹었는데 나중에 알고 보니 사카린이 들어갔다는 것이다.
한번 무너지니 끝없이 추락했다. 자제하던 술자리도 점점 많아 졌다. 술자리에 가도 고기와 밥과 나물만 먹으면서 버티고 있었는데 이제 각종 반찬 특히 김치 종류에 거침 없이 젓가락이 갔다. 결국 ‘설탕 없는 한 달’은 ‘음료수 없는 한 달’ 정도로 만족해야 했다.

우리는 하루에 참 많은 음식을 먹고 있다. 하지만 그 음식에 들어가는 각종 첨가물에 대해서는 잘 생각하지 않는다. 음식이 달달하고 감칠맛이 나고 좋은 향이 나면 저절로 젓가락이 간다. 하지만 혀를 유혹하는 것 대부분이 화학첨가물이라는 것은 거의 생각하지 않는다. ‘설탕 없는 한 달’은 이런 것을 생각해보자고 한 캠페인이었다. 비록 실패 했지만 음식을 생각하고 먹는 습관은 생긴 것 같다.

며칠후면 세월호 참사가 발생한지 1년입니다.
1년이라는 시간이 지났지만, 처음에는 세상을 다 뜯어 고칠것처럼 호들갑을 떨더니, 별로 변한건 없습니다. 세월호의 진실이 밝혀지기를 바라는 사람들은 아직도 걷고 촉구하고 삼보일배하고 선전전하고 기자회견하고.. 별로 상황은 바뀌지 않았습니다. 해경만 해체됐을뿐… 가슴이 아픕니다.

세월호1주기 충북지역 5~6개 시군에서 추모기간, 추모문화제 등 여러가지 진실을 인양하기 위한 노력을 펼치고 있습니다.
청주에서도 여러단체들이 함께 세월호 추모기간을 설정하고, 상당공원을 추모공원으로 해서 추모 사진전 및 리본 접기 등을 진행하고 있으며, 성안길에서는 세월호의 온전한 인양을 촉구하는 선전운동을 진행하고 있습니다.

4월9일 목요일에는 청주충북환경운동연합 활동가들과 행동하는복지연합 활동가들이 성안길 롯데시네마 앞에서 서명운동을 진행하였습니다. 세월호의 온전한 인양을 촉구하는 서명도 받고 시민들에게 리본도 나누어 드렸습니다.
많은 시민들께서 자발적으로 서명에 함께해주셨습니다. 그리고 많은 학생들이 함께 해줬습니다. 감사합니다.
그리고 4.16(목)7시에는 청주 상당공원에서 추모문화제가 진행될 예정입니다. 함께해주시기 바랍니다.
